Freelance AI integration with OpenAI, Qwen and Claude

I build with OpenAI, Qwen and Anthropic Claude, benchmark them on your real tasks, and ship whichever performs best, with a fallback if one goes down.

Short answer

What does a freelance AI developer do?

A freelance AI developer connects large language models, such as OpenAI's GPT models, Alibaba's Qwen and Anthropic's Claude, to your website, data and tools. I design the use case, ground the model in your content, add guardrails and ship a reliable feature, such as a support chatbot or sales agent, AI search, a content engine or an automated workflow.

Not listed?

Tell me the repetitive work your team does every week. I'll tell you honestly whether AI can take it off their plate.

Responsible by default

I use business API tiers and settings that keep your data out of model training, log only what you approve, design for GDPR and local privacy law, and keep a person in the loop for anything consequential.

Model selection

OpenAI, Qwen or Claude: which should you use?

There's no single winner. OpenAI's GPT models, Alibaba's Qwen and Anthropic's Claude are all strong model families, and which performs best depends on your task, language, data and prompts, and changes as new versions ship. I test them on your own examples, pick on evidence, and build so you can switch or combine them.

How Kristian Bansil compares OpenAI, Qwen and Claude for a project
CriterionHow I test it
Answer qualityI score each model on 30–100 of your real questions or tasks, reviewed against approved answers.
Tone & brand fitI check each model follows your voice, formatting and topic boundaries consistently.
SpeedI measure time to first token and full response under realistic load.
CostI estimate monthly cost from expected volume, prompt size and caching.
Tool useI test how reliably each model calls your tools with valid, structured inputs.
Data & complianceI review data handling, retention options, self-hosting with open weights, and regional requirements for your sector.

Glossary

Plain-English definitions of the terms you'll hear when planning an AI project.

Large language model (LLM)
An AI model trained on large amounts of text that can understand and generate language. OpenAI's GPT models, Alibaba's Qwen and Anthropic's Claude are LLMs.
Open-weight model
A model whose trained weights are published, such as some Qwen models, so it can be run on your own servers instead of through a provider's API.
Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
A technique where an AI system first retrieves relevant passages from your own content, then generates an answer grounded in them, improving accuracy and letting it cite sources.
Embeddings
Numerical representations of text that capture meaning, used to find content that is similar in meaning rather than matching exact keywords. They power semantic search.
Tool calling
When a language model requests a structured action, such as creating a quote, booking an appointment or updating a CRM, which your application validates and runs.
AI agent
An AI system that plans and carries out multi-step tasks by calling tools, checking results and deciding what to do next, usually with limits and human approval steps.
Guardrails
Rules and checks that keep an AI system on-topic, safe and accurate, such as scoped instructions, content filters, validated outputs and human hand-off.
Evals
Repeatable tests that score AI output against real examples, used to compare models and to catch problems before changes go live.
Answer engine optimisation (AEO)
Structuring content so AI assistants and answer features can understand and quote it, using direct answers, clear entities, FAQs and structured data.

FAQ

AI questions

Which is better: OpenAI, Qwen or Claude?

None is best for everything. Results vary by task, language, prompt and data, and all three model families change often. I run a side-by-side evaluation on your own examples and choose on accuracy, tone, speed and cost, often combining models with automatic fallback.

Why would I use Qwen?

Qwen, from Alibaba, performs well on many multilingual and Asian-language tasks, and some Qwen models are released as open weights. That means they can be hosted on your own infrastructure when data must stay in-house or costs need to be predictable.

What is a RAG chatbot?

A RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) chatbot looks up relevant passages from your own content before it answers, then responds using only those passages. This keeps answers accurate, current and on-brand, and lets it cite sources.

How much does it cost to run an AI chatbot?

The build starts from ₱30,000 for Philippine clients or US$1,200 for international clients. Running cost is the usage fee charged by the model provider, or hosting if you self-host an open-weight model, and depends on conversation volume and model choice. I estimate it during discovery and add caching to keep it low.

Is our data used to train AI models?

OpenAI and Anthropic state that, by default, data sent through their commercial APIs isn't used to train their models. With open-weight Qwen models, data can stay entirely on your own servers. I confirm the current terms for your use case and add data-retention and redaction controls where needed.

Can AI replace our support team?

AI works best alongside your people. It handles repetitive questions instantly and hands complex or sensitive ones to a person, with the full conversation attached.

Have an AI idea?

Describe it to Sidekick for an instant, itemised estimate, or book a paid discovery sprint and I'll test the models on your own data first.
